Dr Mark McDougall offers skin checks at Springwood Mall Medical Centre to assess concerning spots and discuss your skin cancer risk.
Why skin checks matter
Skin cancer often develops without pain. Finding suspicious changes early allows timely assessment and treatment. Knowing what is normal for your skin helps you notice changes sooner.
What to look for
Book an appointment if you notice:
- A new spot or one that looks different from others.
- A mole changing in size, shape or colour.
- A sore that does not heal, or a spot that bleeds or becomes scaly.
These changes do not always mean cancer, but should be checked. Don’t wait for your next planned skin check.
What to expect
Dr McDougall will discuss your concerns and medical history, then examine your skin with your consent. If needed, he may recommend monitoring, a biopsy or referral. Dr McDougall also performs skin cancer excisions where appropriate.
How often you need checks depends on your individual risk. Your doctor can advise whether ongoing checks are appropriate for you.
Protect your skin
Continue sun protection between visits: sunscreen, protective clothing, a hat, sunglasses and shade.
